THE POP STAR SERIES
From 2005-2013, Neal Medlyn made a set of seven full-length performance pieces, each a mixture of the lives and personae of famous musicians, Neal’s own life story, and fever-dream original elements. The series has overlapping themes and characters and deals with fame, art-making, death, class, violence, freedom, sex, and God. The first piece premiered in a bar, and the works were variously commissioned by PS122, The Chocolate Factory, The Kitchen, and presented by Are Nova, The American Realness Festival, and Kampnagel (Hamburg, Germany). The series became a book from 53rd State press.
